Half-price days out for local residents
Live in an LA or CA postcode? A free residents’ card can unlock big winter savings on Windermere cruises, a motor museum visit and Lakes Aquarium.
Good news for Cumbrian and North Lancashire residents: Windermere Lake Cruises has highlighted its free Local Residents’ Discount Card, with special off-peak prices at three popular attractions. The main winter offer runs from 1 October to 30 April.
Who qualifies?
The free card is available to eligible residents of LA and CA postcode areas, subject to proof of address and the operator’s terms. Qualifying students at Lancaster University and the University of Cumbria may also be eligible. Check the official application page for the current evidence requirements.
Three ways to save this winter
Windermere Lake Cruises – save 50%
Enjoy views across England’s largest lake on eligible scheduled daytime sailings, with routes serving Bowness, Waterhead near Ambleside and Lakeside. The offer excludes certain services such as special events, charters and self-drive boat hire; check the terms before travelling.
Lakeland Motor Museum – save 50%
Head to Backbarrow for a fascinating collection of motoring history. With half-price admission for qualifying cardholders, it’s an appealing winter day out whatever the weather.
Lakes Aquarium – save 30%
Discover freshwater and marine life at Lakeside, near the southern end of Windermere. Combine an aquarium visit with a cruise for an easy family outing.
How to claim the discount
- Check your eligibility on the official residents’ card page.
- Apply for the free card and provide the requested proof of address.
- Present your valid card when purchasing eligible tickets.
The card is valid for five years. Different discounts apply in the warmer months; the operator advertises 20% off eligible cruises and museum entry from May to September.
Over 60? Look out for Silver Sailors Fridays
A separate Friday promotion begins on 6 November 2026, with special off-peak fares for eligible local over-60s. The operator advertises a Freedom of the Lake pass for £8.80, Red or Yellow Cruises for £4.90, and Lakeland Motor Museum admission for £6.50.
