According to a new Travelodge survey, the Lake District is the best rural staycation location.

According to research, the majority of Britons (63%) have booked a summer vacation this year, a 50% rise over the number of Britons (42%) who went away in the summer of 2022.

This summer, over three-quarters (72%) of these vacationers have chosen to spend their time on British coastlines, with the Lake District being the most popular location.

Staycationers are spending an average of £1011.30 on their Lake District vacation this year. In comparison, they spent £513.13 on average last year.

These data were made public in the most recent part of the 2023 Travelodge Travel Index. This research polled 2,000 British individuals on their summer vacation plans.

This report’s key results also indicated that 25% of Britons said that a summer vacation is one of the few things in life that they refuse to cut back on.

“Our latest research shows that Britons are prioritising and taking a well-deserved staycation this summer, despite the rising cost of living,” said Shakila Ahmed of Travelodge, “and the Lake District is the top rural staycation destination.”

“In these difficult times, a break has become one of life’s necessities, and our bookings data shows that Britons are getting creative and resourceful with their budget and holiday planning.”

“New travel trends we’re seeing include Britons splitting their vacations into multiple shorter breaks and planning multi-location vacations.” This allows people to blend two separate experiences into one vacation and get a greater value for their money and time.

“For example, visitors to the Lake District may include a stopover in Manchester for a city break or a visit to Blackpool for a coastal escape.”

“With a network of over 580 hotels across the UK, including four near the Lake District, holidaymakers are using Travelodge hotels as their summer base this summer to explore and experience what makes Great Britain so Great.”

“We are seeing a rise in early breakfast bookings, and our hotel teams are stocking up for a busy breakfast service this summer across the Lake District.”
