After 169 years of just having one shop, Grasmere Gingerbread has launched a second location in the Lake District.
Sarah Nelson, the gingerbread’s originator, initially sold her world-famous sweet delicacy in 1854 from her Church Cottage house in Grasmere, which is now the Grasmere Gingerbread store.
Corner Shop on Main Street in Hawkshead has a new shop that is accessible to the public seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 4.30 p.m.
It sells freshly baked gingerbread, coffee from artisan roaster Duffin’s Coffee of Staveley, gingerbread ice cream, and gifts from local enterprises.
According to Andrew Hunter, co-director of the company, the response from clients has been phenomenal.
“Our Hawkshead shop does not simply replicate the Grasmere Gingerbread shop experience; it provides terrific takeaway coffee and consciously showcases a lot of great products made by other small and family Cumbrian businesses,” he said.
“Many of whom we have been working with for years but may have only sold online due to a lack of space in our original shop.” Duffin’s Coffee gave all of our personnel barista training, and they have been a pleasure to work with.”
