Inn on the Lake new Terrace

THE four-star Inn on the Lake hotel in Glenridding has unveiled a new 75-metre lakeside terrace patio with seats for more than 90 guests.

The hotel is owned by Lake District Hotels Ltd, who closed its former terrace in early 2023. It now includes a new outside eating area.

The old site was dug and rebuilt into a new 75m long terrace with slate walls and fine masonry detail, as well as a wooden pergola that frames visitors’ views of Ullswater, over the course of four months by Cumbrian groundwork business O’Malley.

The slate walls divide the terrace into numerous sitting zones, with certain wall complexes including chairs.

Honister Slate Mine supplied all slate, including approximately 90 tonnes of walling stone and 200 linear metres of coping stones.

The hotel has purchased a variety of pots, plants, and bushes to provide warmth and colour to the room. Automated electric doors have been installed into the structure, allowing visitors to exit the bar onto the new wheelchair-accessible outside space.

“We are thrilled with the end product. “With its stunning new terrace and breath-taking views of Ullswater and the surrounding fells, the Inn on the Lake truly is an unrivalled setting for weddings,” said Gary Wilson, general manager of the Inn on the Lake.

The lakeside hotel has four separate access to the terrace: one from the Lake View Restaurant, one from the private hire Glenridding Suite, another from the bar area and one from the Orangery.
