A 5-minute walk from Ambleside and a mile from Lake Windermere, the largest natural lake in England, this charming guest house was originally 2 separate Victorian cottages. It specialises in home-cooked food and offers free Wi-Fi and free parking on site. Haven Cottage still retains traditional old features like wooden beams and feature fireplaces. Most rooms benefit from picturesque mountain views, and all feature a TV and tea and coffee making facilities. Breakfast is provided each morning, made with Cumberland sausage or vegetarian sausage, lightly smoked dry-cured bacon, and other locally sourced ingredients. A number of scenic walking routes start from Haven Cottage, and cycle storage is provided if guests wish to bring their bicycle. The market town of Keswick is a 20-minute drive away.

Inside our beautiful nineteenth-century Lakeland stone building, you’ll find unexpectedly luxurious touches in every room, including handmade natural Bath House toiletries and a relaxing guest lounge with a log-burning stove, as well as owners who live and breathe the local lifestyle. We are on hand to offer expert advice on spectacular walking routes directly from our front door, as well as featuring delicious local produce in our breakfast menus and homemade cakes, served daily in our guest lounge.
Our four en-suite rooms each have their own unique character and features. Choose between two king size suites, one with a private balcony and luxury bathroom, one with a private sitting room and roll top bath, or two cosy doubles with prime views over Wansfell Pike. Haven Cottage is an adults-only bed and breakfast, and offers private parking and electric car charging.
Amanda is a registered nutritionist as well as co-owner of Haven Cottage, which means our focus is on providing our guests with food that not only tastes great, but does you good as an added benefit. Whether you are planning on climbing a mountain, or taking in the views at a more sedate pace, our guests can choose from an extensive menu of breakfast options – including fresh fruit and berries, fresh smoothie, pastries, homemade granola, Cumbrian sausages, and smoked salmon – all types of diets, intolerances and allergies are happily catered for. We strive to source our ingredients from local, quality suppliers wherever we can, so you can enjoy the best the Lakes have to offer, including Winter Tarn Dairy butter, produced in Cumbria from grass fed cattle, eggs sourced from The Lakes Free Range Egg Company, sausages from our local butchers in Ambleside, and bacon from Askerton Castle Organic Estate.
Every afternoon we serve complimentary homemade cake to our guests, by the fire in our cosy guest lounge. Taste comes first and our cakes get rave reviews, but we like to include ingredients that will improve flavour and add nourishment where we can.
