A landmark Grasmere hotel is preparing for a new chapter, with The Wordsworth taking bookings for November 2026 following a major refurbishment by The Inn Collection Group. The redevelopment increases the property from 38 to 56 bedrooms and adds extensive new spaces for eating, drinking and relaxing in the village centre.

What is changing at The Wordsworth?
The Inn Collection Group is transforming the well-known Grasmere property into an inn with rooms, designed to welcome both overnight guests and people visiting for a meal or a drink. The redevelopment will provide a wider selection of accommodation, including classic doubles and twins, accessible rooms, suites with sofa beds and superior rooms with terraces. Check the specific room category and facilities before booking.
The operator has announced capacity for around 196 guests indoors and 130 outdoors in its food-and-drink spaces. A substantial beer garden and fires in the lobby are intended to make it welcoming across the seasons, from summer afternoons to winter walking breaks.
When will The Wordsworth reopen?
The operator says it expects to welcome its first guests from November 2026 and is already taking bookings. As of 5 November, an exact public reopening day has not been confirmed. Visitors planning an early stay should check their chosen dates before travelling.
The property is now promoted as The Wordsworth. Older online listings may still use its former name, The Wordsworth Hotel & Spa. The current redevelopment announcement does not confirm a reopening of the former spa facilities, so visitors should not assume that a swimming pool or spa will be available.
