A Wainwright bagging couple who became separated – after she fell and hurt her leg and he had actually backtracked to find a smart phone he had lost – were securely reunited by mountain rescuers from Keswick and Cockermouth.
The pair were on Glaramara on Wednesday when she slipped off a drop and fell 5 metres hurting her head and upper leg.
She reassured her partner that she was fine, and he continued his search for his mobile phone and backtracked their route in bad conditions and snow. After giving up on the phone, the man discovered he could not locate the woman despite looking for some substantial time. The man, without his phone, had no option but to come down.
Meanwhile, the female understood something was incorrect and called 999 for mountain rescue help. The woman had the ability to make her own way back up towards Glaramara aided by routine confirmatory calls from the Keswick Mountain Rescue Group base and using phone finder to track her development.
When the phone signal got weak the female was asked to stay where she was so that the team knew exactly where to discover her.
The team approached from Combe Gill and also up the steep Hind Gill from Seathwaite to increase the possibility of finding the woman. On securely reaching the valley bottom in Seathwaite the man called 999, utilising the public payphone and reported his place and the scenario to the police.
The woman reported being cold and having an aching leg from her fall, so the group requested aid from Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Group to improve Keswick’s numbers in case a stretcher carry was required.
Regardless of the bad conditions on the snowy tops, the rescuers found the lady thanks to the accurate phone finder app. She was given some food, and after being examined, she was able to stroll off unaided.
The two walkers were eventually reunited back at the Keswick base.
