Keswick is getting ready to sparkle! The Keswick Christmas Lights Switch-On 2026 takes place on Wednesday 18 November, bringing a festive glow to the heart of this popular Lake District town.

Switch-on time: 7pm
- 10:00 am: Christmas Food and Gift Fayre opens around the town centre

- 5:45 pm: Live performance by the cast of The Wizard of Oz from the Theatre by the Lake in Market Square

- 7:00 pm: Official main Christmas lights switch-on by the Keswick Community Housing Trust in Market Square
What to expect
Gather in the centre of Keswick as the town welcomes the festive season. The Christmas lights provide a wonderful backdrop for an evening browsing local shops, enjoying a warming drink and soaking up the atmosphere with family and friends.
This year’s event is planned on a Wednesday rather than the traditional Friday, with a more manageable format following crowding concerns in 2025. Do not rely on previous years’ entertainment schedules or switch-on times.
Make an evening of it
Arrive with time to explore Keswick’s independent shops, cafés and restaurants before the lights come on. If you’re visiting for a short break, take a daytime stroll by Derwentwater before heading into town.
Practical tips
- Wrap up warmly and bring waterproof clothing: November evenings can be cold and wet.
- Expect the town centre to be busy and allow extra time for parking.
- Check the council’s latest announcement for the exact switch-on time and any access arrangements.
- If travelling with young children, arrange a meeting point in case you become separated.
