Handcrafted local beers named after Windermere’s historic steamers are now offered to passengers aboard the vessels.
Eleven years after a local brewery first brewed Swan Blonde, guests aboard the steamer MV Swan may now drink a pint while traversing England’s longest lake.
Windermere Lake Cruises has partnered with award-winning Bowness Bay Brewing Ltd to provide “a perfect partnership” of locally made beers aboard popular tour boats.
“It truly is a dream come true,” said Richard Husbands, proprietor of Bowness Bay Brewing Ltd. We’re overjoyed to see it finally come to completion after all these years, and we’re even happier that guests on the Lake District’s most expensive attraction may now drink our beers onboard.
“When I first started the brewery, I thought it would be great to name the beers after the vessels and remember the great times I had on them.”
Windermere Lake Cruises’ iconic “steamers” return to operation for the season on Saturday, April 1. Swan Blonde, the brewery’s best-selling beer, as well as Swan Black and Swan Gold, will be available.
Windermere Lake Cruises Sales and Marketing Director Jennifer Cormack adds, “I can’t think of a better way to enjoy a pint of Swan Blonde than cruising across Windermere on MV Swan!” What a great way to pass the time during the Easter holiday!”
Bowness Bay Brewing began in Bowness-on-Windermere and currently boasts a four-vessel steam-heated brewhouse in Kendal with a capacity of 30,000 gallons of ale per week.
Hotels, restaurants, taverns, and bars, as well as independent shops and grocery stores, are served by the award-winning microbrewery.
