Donald Campbell, whose death on Coniston Water surprised the world back in 1967 whilst trying to break his own water speed record, would have been 100 years old on 23 March 2021, however The Ruskin Museum are instead honouring the speed ace’s centenary this year.
A spokesperson for the Coniston museum stated: “We did what we could with the constraints that were put upon us however, we would have liked to have had a big occasion where all his fans could have attended and remembered him.
“So this year on 23rd March 2022 we are holding a casual get together in the Bluebird Wing for the ending of the Centenary year.
“With really kind approval of David de Lara, we will be revealing his film “Keeping in mind Donald”
Gina Campbell, the daughter of Donald, Don Wales and Peter Hulme, Donald’s nephews, will also be in attendance and will hold an informal talk with a question and answer session.
Included in the £25 ticket cost are a food buffet and an ‘endless’ glass of wine (other beverages are offered), and all proceeds will go towards the future care and conservation of the Campbell Collection.
Doors will open at 6.30 pm, and the event will start at 7pm.
