This week, an innovative Cumbrian firm specialised in locally created goods will launch its second location.
Tomorrow, Thursday, July 28, A Day’s Walk will open its main store in Ambleside.
During the first lockdown in 2020, it began as a local vegetable delivery service, and in June of last year, it launched its first Lake District Farm Shop at Holker Hall.
Its new shop on Church Street in Ambleside is only the beginning for the family-run business, which hopes to grow even further over the next two years.

Every item of food and drink sold at A Day’s Walk originates from a farmer, grower, or producer within a day’s walk of its outlets.
Its success, according to co-founder Colin Sneath, indicates the value individuals place on traceability, provenance, and supporting the local community.
“We’re delighted that we’ve been able to establish a delivery business for both residents and visitors who want to enjoy the great local food and drink grown or made in Cumbria,” he said, adding that “our first farm shop at Holker Hall, selling 100% Cumbrian produce, has exceeded expectations in its first year.”
It has always been our intention to grow, so when the opportunity to open a flagship shop in Ambleside arose, we jumped at it.
“By selling their produce in our Lake District Farm Shops, we support over a dozen Cumbrian farms.” In fact, most farmers lack a suitable site, the competence, or the funds to build retail premises on their property.
“Our 100% Cumbrian philosophy allows them to diversify and get their produce to market without the expense, stress, or red tape associated with opening their own shop.”
We can even advise on packaging and labelling to help farmers overcome some of the other obstacles they face, giving the public access to some wonderful, genuinely local produce.
